The Batibo Council is found in the North West Region of Cameroon. Its sphere of influence coincides with Batibo Sub-Division of Momo Division. It was created from the Bamenda-Widikum Council in 1977 by decree No. 77/203 of 19/06/77. It lies in the South Eastern part of Momo Division and is located some 45 km from Bamenda and about 27 km from the Divisional Headquarter, Mbengwi. It is located between latitudes 4095’ and 5045, N and Longitudes 10010’and 10030E. 


The location of the Council area is show in Map 1. It occupies a surface area of 415.9 km2 with a population of about 44,619 inhabitants giving a population density of about 241 inhabitants/km2. There are principally two ethnic groups in the Council area namely:  Moghamo and Mborroros. The Mborroros constitute a significant minority population who are scattered in the villages of Ashong, Anong and Mbengok. The larger of the ethnic groups is the Moghamo. 


The descendants of the Moghamo are known to be the offspring of Tembenka and Akumaka whose origin is alleged to be from the wave of Bantu emigrants. The Council is made up of 22 autonomous vil The Headquarter of Batibo Council and the Batibo Sub Division is located at Batibo town. Since its creation the Council has been administered by Municipal Administrators and Mayors.
